Learning To Alter Your Thrift Finds

I loveeeee clothes so much but can’t always afford to go shopping EVERYTIME I need a new outfit… SO instead I DIY my thrift finds to alter them to the style I want! Let me explain!
I find my style inspiration through current trends but I always gravitate toward the vintage look that never seems to go out of style! When I see old photos of my mom in the 90’s I ask if for some reason she still has that shirt laying around the house (and surprisingly sometimes she does). Rachel Green’s style will always be goals, can I get an amen!
Most of the time when I am thrift shopping I think of her style mixed with Urban Outfitters and then see how I can make it into my own. This shirt below looked like something my grandpa would wear to the beach when I first tried it on, but I cut the sleeves, rolled them up & knotted the front.. then voila!
NOW for the shorts, oh boy did they need some altering! I cannot sew to save my life but I am fancy with the scissors! These cropped capri pants were awful when I first got them and where I am also very tall it’s hard to find shorts to fit the way I want them!
Now for the before photo below of these shorts… which does not even do its justice! I wish I had a photo of the top and shorts before to compare!
(& excuse the messy room – I was in the middle of packing for a trip)
I am not kidding when I say this entire outfit below was less than $5 from a local thrift store!!

(Shirt: $1.50 & Pants: $2.40)

What are those ?!!

Did I mention they Velcro? So funny!
But all that matters is I was able to recreate an outfit I love at a VERY affordable price!
So the next time you need a new outfit for a trip, a girls night out or work but you are ballin on a budget… hit up your local thrift store with a look in mind and then get crafty with the clothes you find! <3
