Why I Finally Hired A Wedding Planner

I am writing this post wedding but have had many many thoughts on this topic over the past year! Let’s start with right around the time we got engaged! So many people started with congrats and ended with “you’re going to LOVE wedding planning!” I truly thought I would since I love planning events and am a detail oriented person.

However, I was very wrong… for a while I thought something was wrong with me – why didn’t I like wedding planning after so many people told me how much fun it was going to be!

We were engaged for right around one year and I fully planned on doing everything on my own and did up until month 8 when I literally could not make another decision to save my life. I had all of my vendors booked by this point which you would think the hardest part was over, but I still didn’t feel an ounce of relief. Instead, I felt even more pressure because now there were a million other tiny parts that had to be put into motion almost immediately.

For months I was telling myself I don’t need a wedding planner, it’s not in the budget, I can do this stuff myself, I just need to set aside time every day, blah blah

The feeling of excitement for planning still wasn’t there, and I started to freak out a little bit inside.

We got married in July and thankfully right around March, an actual angel from above I like to say popped up on my Instagram feed, JC Weddings & Events.

I knew I needed help and so we scheduled a meeting! After having our first meeting which turned into a 5 hour lunch with Jules, it felt like God hand-delivered the solution to all of my wedding planning worries on a silver platter. It didn’t take much time for me to realize I needed Jules asap! I was also able to sit down and say to myself “it’s okay, this just isn’t your strong suit” and move on from it.

Jules 100% understood my aesthetic, my budget needs, and was on board with everything I had planned so far to step right in to start! Jules helped with all of the behind-the-scenes communication and then presented the need-to-know information in an email for me. She also sorted through contracts (which is so huge!), advised on payment schedules, and kept me on track with what I needed to be doing on my own. Jules also did all of the Day-Of Coordination for us which is a 100% must have!

Here are some main takeaways I learned from planning my wedding… I now know that the thought of planning big events with a lot of details stresses me out to the point of overwhelm and procrastination.

I can honestly say that if you are even slightly overwhelmed with your big day – THAT’S NORMAL. It is for sure okay to not be completely obsessed with wedding planning and you are not alone!
