Summer Makeup: Q&A with Ivy Wild Beauty

Trying new makeup is always fun to me! Ivy Wild Beauty is a local DMV shop with all clean and natural products! I got the chance to try some of their products and I learned a lot in the process!

In the Q&A below, I answer questions about my personal aesthetic, makeup + style trends I am looking forward to this summer! Plus, all of the skincare product I’m loving right now that’s improved my overall skin tone.

We can tell from your stylish ‘gram that you’re a lover of fashion! How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my style as a cross between edgy street style with a boho vintage twist.

Your outfits are so put together! Do you have an accessory that you can’t get enough of right now?

Sunglasses because they’re affordable and help complete many summer looks.

Would you say your summer makeup aesthetic has a similar feel?

Yes! I love a natural look for summer that makes me feel like I just got back from the beach. Adding a little bronzer & highlighter with a nude or pinkish lip color is my summer go-to.

We’re all about that sun-kissed look too. Check out our collection of cream and powder bronzers and our blog post that breaks down the difference between the two and tips on where to apply it!

Walk us through your daily makeup routine.

First, I prime my face with the Ursa Major Vitamin C Serum. Once it sinks in, I use the Saint Foundation and apply it with a damp beauty blender. I love this foundation because it’s long wear and lightweight. It’s also enough coverage to hide any blemishes or redness without feeling too heavy. Another plus – no creasing!

After foundation, I add a very small amount of the Saint Concealer under my eyes to get rid of redness and I apply it to any other spots or blemishes on my face for additional coverage. The Saint foundation and concealer are the perfect combo!

Then, with a brush, I lightly apply bronzer on my forehead and cheeks. Next, I use highlight above my cheekbones, on my tear ducts, brow bone, bridge of my nose and cupid’s bow.

Depending on the look, I might add an eyeshadow. Normally, I apply a matte cream color on the base and a shimmery gold color in the crease of my eye lids. Finally, to complete the look the three most important products of all – brows, eyelashes and lips!

We love a groomed brow – it definitely helps frame a face. Talk to us about your brow upkeep.

I am letting my brows grow out a little to make them look fuller and thicker. Some of this was unplanned because I couldn’t get them done during quarantine, but I ended up loving the way they looked!

I recently started using the PYT Beauty Brow Pencil which is great for filling in brows and creating hair-like strokes with the fine point.

Then, on the opposite end, there’s a spoolie brush so I can keep my hairs in place! I like to top it off with a brow gel and brush them up for a little more volume.

Is there one makeup product that you can’t live without?

Without a doubt, mascara. I have very light blonde eyelashes so without mascara my eyelashes almost look invisible.

Any makeup trends you’re looking forward to testing out?

I can’t wait to try faux freckles and colored eyeliner. I recently purchased a blue eyeliner that will make my blue eyes pop!

We can’t wait to see that look on you, definitely keeping our eye out! Switching it up to skincare – what are some skincare products are you loving right now?

In the morning, I love my Ursa Major Vitamin C Serum. It helps with evening out my skin tone, plus it has anti-aging products like vitamin C. It’s almost like a boosted SPF which neutralizes UV exposure. I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin since using it! My face feels softer and it’s cleared up some of my acne as well.

For PM skincare, my go-tos are night cream and eye cream – both with added hydration. I, of course, love the occasional face mask or scrub too.

Ursa Major’s Brighten Up Vitamin C Serum is a customer favorite too! It’s the perfect summer serum because it’s lightweight and absorbs quickly. Not only does it help even out your skin tone and fade acne scars with highly stable vitamin C and rosehip, it also hydrates, soothes and protects skin with hyaluronic acid, aloe and powerful antioxidants.

What’s your summer color palette this year?

It is very surprising because I am typically a neutral color palette kind of girl, but this summer I’m loving orange dresses and pale yellow swimsuits! I’ve also been seeing a lot of light mint green and violet.

Stepping out of a color palette comfort zone can be fun! What makeup look would you want your alter ego to rock?

My alter ego would for sure rock a smokey eye with a little shimmer…and of course, a bold brow and lip! I’m thinking Witney Carson from Dancing With the Stars. Her makeup always makes a statement!
