As we all know, the majority of this past year has been filled with binging TV shows since we have spent the majority of our time at home. I took a break for a little bit because I felt like most were filled with unnecessary drama TV shows that I of course could live without seeing. However, I recently discovered a new show called The Chosen which has been quite the opposite.
I have never known of another show like this and highly recommend it to all! The Chosen, directed by Dallas Jenkins, is the first-ever multi-season historical TV show about the life of Jesus through the eyes of those who met Him.
Whenever I discovered this show I knew it was something I wanted to watch and decided to start it during lent as Easter was approaching. I mainly decided to watch it because one of my New Year’s resolutions was to become closer to God this year. I will be honest in saying this past year has been hard to go to church. I have been back and forth from DC and KY during Covid and my church was closed for a large amount of time so it was difficult to have a consistent schedule.
Also, it is no excuse but of course as life gets busy it is hard to keep up with the religious podcasts I use to listen to and attend bible studies I use to be a part of. This show was a way for me to feel connected again on my own at home. It is a great day to wind down at night after a long day or I would even turn it on during my lunch break to decompress for a little bit.
The presentation of the show is amazing and does a great job at telling a very old story, but in a fresh way that is translated nicely for everyone to understand in today’s age. It offers a glimpse into what a “day in the life” of Jesus Chris was like and helps you to be able to visualize what his surroundings and disciples might have looked like 2000 plus years ago. It also allows viewers to see Jesus through the eyes of those who met Him
Overall, I feel like the show is very easy to follow, even if you are not very familiar with the bible. I loved the storyline in Season 1 so much because it was informative while entertaining at the same time.
I watched the show in such a short amount of time because I wanted to know what was going to happen next with all of the twists and turns included! The way they filmed this show was great – from the lighting to the sets, costumes and more – I loved it all. During the first episode I knew I was going to enjoy The Chosen. I think the directors do a great job of portraying the characters and the town to how I would picture them in the bible. I have included some images here from the cast to help you visualize what the show portrays.
The Chosen has also been a great way to help me follow the Bible and understand the storyline better to put some of the pieces together that may be hard to understand. It demonstrated all the people Jesus met and the struggles and triumphs He experienced at a young age.

The show is completely free to watch online with no subscription required to use the app either.
I am so excited that season 2 just premiered on Easter! I have not had the chance to start it yet but I cannot wait to watch all of it. The Chosen will be releasing one episode at a time but they are hoping to publish them as quickly as they can edit them! The series will comprise of 8 seasons total and it all crowd-funded which is very neat!
Overall, The Chosen was such a breath of fresh air and different from any other show I have watched lately but for the best. I feel like it was beneficial because it taught me something along the way and helped me grow in my faith. No matter where you are at in your journey, I recommend others watch this show and see what you think! Be sure to let me know if you watch it.
